Behind The Scenes at "Eco-Fashion In The Park"

Sep 26, 2011

I was able to visit behind the scenes and chat with a few of the people who participated in "Eco-Fashion In The Park", an event produced by Gina Constanza of House of Glam. Besides a runway show, there were also informative workshops about reducing waste and a clothing swap. A clothing swap is where people can exchange lightly used clothing, so it's like getting new clothes without spending any money or bringing more waste to the environment.

me with Trudy Miller of solutionista.com
this is all she travels with! her clothes can be converted in many different ways to reduce space. she's wearing one of her own garments called "The Kimono Dragon".
ten year old designer Karina Fernandez (second from left) and her adorable models
designers Tom Sohun, Brigite Artis, Wendell Johnston and Sandra Baquero
Miriam Guerrero of Original Wear and her models. how flattered was i when she told me she followed my blog? Very flattered!
Iliana Quander of Amparo 3 prepping a model

I also chatted with a few of the models. Surprisinlgy, this was the first runway show for most of them. I never would've guessed it.
 Gregiory modelling Original Wear
 Diana Salib modelling Ana Segura
 Nereyda Melo
Both Gregory and Nereyda Melo immigrated from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at a young age while Diana Salib was born and raised in New Jersey. This was the first runway show for both Gregory and Diana. Wendell Johnston was a favorite of Gregory's, "he killed it" was what he said about the designer. Melo's favorite was Lissy Gomez of LVG Designs. All three models practice being "eco-chic" by donating unwanted clothing.

A big thanks to House of Glam and to Anhellic Lozada of Small Biz Latino for creating this event and for inviting me to participate. I had a great time.
